Because of the region’s long and strong connection to the tree fruit industry, the historic Laurel Packinghouse has been restored and made into a museum as tribute to the thousands of people who have worked in the industry.
Exhibitions on packing, processing, home preserving, picking, orchards, marketing and awards won by British Columbia growers tells the story of the Okanagan Valley’s transformation from a cattle range to beautifully manicured orchards. Kids will enjoy the model trail railroad display in the gift shop.
Another highlight is ‘The Learning Tree’, a 50 year old Macintosh apple tree that helps interpret the orchard industry in easy-to-understand language and demonstration. The BC Orchard Industry Museum is located at 1304 Ellis Street (inside the Historic Laurel Packinghouse) and is open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm. There is no admission to the museum, but donations are accepted.
