Melody. Beethoven used it to twist a Sarabande into Spain's oppression of the Netherlands. Mozart used it to introduce the oriental exoticism of the Turks to eighteenth-century Vienna. Dvorak's Sixth Symphony glories in it, inspired by Czech folksong.
At this special Okanagan Symphony Orchestra rehearsal, guest violinist Suzanne Hou will draw out Mozart's voice and show how melody shapes music.
